Similar to the Common Ground model developed by the WA State Government, St Pat’s have developed their own unique solution to help those in need. With support from the City of Fremantle’s Planning Committee, this ‘housing first’ project is packaged and awaiting approval by the Metro Inner-South Joint Development Assessment Panel (JDAP).
The proposal, put forward by St Patrick’s Community Support Centre, would replace the centre’s existing accommodation facilities from 22 short-stay units to provide 28 long-stay apartments. There are also new facilities planned for Beach Street — see below.
New offering on Beach Street — Open to all Fremantle residents
It also involves moving the entrance of the existing community support centre from Queen Victoria Street to Beach Street, creating a new space with community services off Beach Street and upgrading the existing heritage offices on Queen Victoria Street.
Conversion of the existing warehouse building at №3 Beach Street for a larger (approx. 930sqm total) Community Purpose (Medical Support and Day Centre ) to allow for more comprehensive service provision. The entrance to the service from Beach Street instead of Queen Victoria Street, including provision of:
- Barber/hairdresser
- Café (open to all public)
- Dentist
- Medical consulting rooms
- Offices
