Again, I’m being contacted by members of our community over the decision to remove the Fig from the Significant Tree Resister on September 11th 2024. People are asking what happened and who voted for what.

For the record, I voted to keep the Fig protected.

I thought I would write this quick blog piece to centralise some of the information over the latest decision.

September 11th 2024 — Here’s how Council voted:

*Mayor Fitzhardinge and Cr Mofflin were on a leave of absence on 11th of September.

February 28th — The Fig is returned to the Register:

Returning from my leave of absence, I moved a the below Motion which allowed the entire Council to vote on this important decision, giving a more representative outcome. Council voted to revoke the decision from 14th of February and the tree was returned to the Significant Tree Register.

Feb 14th 2024 — The Fig is removed (for the fist time):

During this debate, I was on a leave of absence.

27th February 2019 — The Fig is transferred from the Heritage List:
